Prognostic value of serial changes in left ventricular mass in
essential hypertension

Introduction. Is unknown whether regression of left ventricular
hypertrophy is associated with attenuation of cardiovascular risk.
What was done. 399 subjects with essential hypertension had Echo and
24-h ABPM before therapy and after an average 2.8 years of follow-up.
Patients with LVH that regressed had similar outcomes, while those with
persistent LVH had a worse outcome with adjusted hazard ratio of 2.85
compared to those without LVH at baseline.
Comments: This appears to be an important observation with obvious
implacation:regression of LVH dramatically improves prognosis.
