Accurately
estimating dry weight can often be a daunting task for nephrology
clinicians.
Many interrelated factors must be considered when setting or changing
the estimated dry
weight (EDW). These factors include not only patient assessment
(predialysis, intradialy -
sis, and postdialysis), but also patient history, laboratory data,
whether or not the patient
is hospitalized, and social factors, particularly holidays. Armed
with necessary informa -
tion, nephrology nurses can estimate dry weight with accuracy.
