The American Society of Nephrology would like to inform you about an important issue affecting our Society and its members. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) published a proposed rule that would create significant changes to reimbursement for medical care for beneficiaries with End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD). The ASN is concerned that the proposed rule could negatively impact patient care, practicing nephrologists, and academic institutions with nephrology departments. To read the proposal, please visit http://www.cms.gov/physicians/pfs/default.asp.
The ASN is working with its Dialysis Advisory Group and Policy & Public Affairs Committee to formulate a formal written response on the proposed changes. The ASN is taking this issue very seriously and is making every effort to be sure that appropriate feedback is provided to CMS and that a fair and reasonable outcome is achieved. Paul Smedberg, the ASN Director of Policy and Public Affairs has made arrangements for ASN leaders to meet with keys officials at CMS so that ASN can provide direct input and initiate an effective dialogue to address this important issue. If you would like to provide constructive recommendations and innovative ideas on potential solutions to this complex problem, please contact Paul Smedberg at firstname.lastname@example.org. Your input is most welcome.
