An unexpected pregnancy causes poor drainage in
automated peritoneal dialysis
Nephrol Dial Transplant
(Nov) 11:2335-2337 1996

Pregnancy in CAPD patients is discussed on HDCN by Susan Hou in
both an
Ask the Professor section, and more at length in presentation
given at the
1995 Seattle PD Meeting. This paper describes a new
presentation of pregnancy in a PD patient; development of PD
catheter dysfunction with failure to drain. The pregnancy was
discovered, the catheter began to drain, and ultimately, a healthy
baby was delivered.
Comment: The message of the paper is to advise PD patients
not wanting to conceive to practice contraception, and to suspect
pregnancy in a sexually active ESRD patient with unexplained
catheter drainage (especially with regard to ordering radiologic
studies)
