Stricker RB et al
Pancreatorenal syndrome associated with combination
antiretroviral therapy in HIV infection
Lancet
(Jun) 349:1745-1746 1997

The authors describe two patients with HIV who were treated with a
combination aof a
nucleoside analogue and protease inhibitor who developed acute pancreatitis
and acute
renal failure. Symptoms resolved with supportive treatment, and recurred
with
reinstitution of combination therapy. Causality remains to be proven, but
this potential
association needs to be kept in mind.
