Randomised controlled study of the effect of parathyroid
hormone on vertebral-bone mass and fracture incidence among
postmenopausal women on oestrogen with osteoporosis
Kidney Int
(Aug) 52:550-555 1997

We tend to think of PTH as the "evil hormone" of renal osteodystropy, because
of its
osteoclastic properties. With adynamic bone disease, we also are forced to
recall the
osteoblastic actions of this hormone. In this paper in non-ESRD patients, 1
-34 PTH given
daily subQ to postmenopausal women was shown to have a marked salutary effect
on both bone
density and fracture rate.
