The accuracy of polyclonal fluorescence polarization immunoassay-
derived (P-FPIA) serum vancomycin levels in ESRD patients is
unclear because of the presence of vancomycin degradation
products which are also detected by this assay. To
determine whether the P-FPIA overestimates vancomycin levels in
PD patients, trough serum and dialysate levels were measured
using P-FPIA and a monoclonal assay (M-FPIA) during treatment of
peritonitis. No significant differences in values were obtained
by the two assays, suggesting that degradation product
accumulation does not occur in PD patients treated with
vancomycin.
