Well-water related peritonitis

Three episodes of Gram negative peritonitis were attributed to
contaminated well water. In all patients, the same organism was
cultured from the dialysate and the corresponding well water. In
two patients, exit site infections with the same organism were
also present. After decontamination of the wells with chlorine
bleach, these patients were peritonitis free for %gt; 1 yr. "Well
water peritonitis" should be considered in patients with Gram
negative peritonitis.
Comment: An interesting finding, which may be relevant in
certain patients, especially those living in rural areas.
