Reduced incidence of peritonitis by utilizing "flush before fill" in APD
17th Annual CAPD Conference

The "flush before fill" technique is known to decrease the incidence of peritonitis in CAPD. In this study, this technique was examined in patients on APD and compared to standard APD technique (225 patient-months each). There were 8 episodes of peritonitis in the flush before fill vs. 22 episodes in the standard group. Thus this technique also appears to be beneficial in APD patients.

Comment: This is a "common sense" abstract but provides evidence for using the flush before fill technique with APD. (David J. Leehey, M.D., Loyola University at Chicago)
