Malnutrition and neuropathy in non-diabetic CAPD patients

Prior studies have demonstrated that both malnutrition and neuropathy
are risk factors for increased mortality levels. To further evaluate
this observation, nerve conduction studies and nutritional parameters
were measured in 32 CAPD patients. Neuropathy was defined as
significant prolonging of terminal latency, decrease in amplitude or
slowing of velocity in one nerve.
Significant correlations between neuropathy was found with the
following nutritional data: Albumin, prealbumin, IGF-1 and midarm
muscle area No correlations were found between neuropathy and the
following nutritional data: age, transferrin, triceps skin fold Kt/V,
NPCR, serum vitamin B12 levels.

Malnutrition may contribute to neuropathy in chronic dialysis
