Two putative functional variants of the ACE gene locus involved
in the genetic determination of plasma ACE
16th Scientific Meeting of the International Society of Hypertension
ISH Abstract Book
(Jun) 16: 1996
The I/D polymorphism in ACE is intronic and is probably a
non-functional marker associated with about half the variability in
plasma ACE. Plasma ACE is a better marker of cardiovascular risk than
the I/D polymorphisms and other genetic determinants of plasma ACE
have been sought. The authors identified 10 new polymorphisms in ACE
mostly in the 5' regulatory sequence and the 3' UTR. Individually all
were associated with pACE but after correction for the I/D
polymorphisms only the 5' polymorphisms were.
Comment: If genetic markers which predict plasma ACE
completely can be identified then much better association studies of
the role of ACE in disease will be possible (Alan Jardine, M.D.,
Glasgow University, Scotland).
