Detection of parvovirus B19 DNA in renal biopsies of patients
with idiopathic collapsing glomerulopathy

(Sep) 8:94A 1997
The authors report an interesting association between parvovirus and
idiopathic
collapsing glomerulopathy. using PCR they noted that they could detect the
presence of the virus in the kidneys of 9 of 10 patients with the collapsing
lesion but only rarely in idiopathic focal segmental glomerulosclerosis and
normal controls. The authors suspect that the virus could be related to the
pathogenesis of the collapsiong lesion. Additional data including screening
of
the samples of patients with other renal lesions, and animal experiments with
the
virus are needed to evaluate the possibilty of the association being
etilologic, i.e., Koch's postulates need to be fulfilled.
