Mycophenolate mofetil is effective for maintenance therapy of
systemic vasculitis

Serious complications of long-term cyclophosphamide therapy have
been reported. Thus an alternate agent for maintenance therapy
is desirable. In a multi-center pilot study of patients with vasculitis,
mycophenolate mofetil (MMF) was given with tapering steroid doses for 15
months
after remission with steroids and cyclophosphamide. No relapses
have occurred.
Comment: These are pilot data with small numbers
but are encouraging. (David J. Leehey, M.D., Loyola University at
Chicago)
