Decreased bone formation in idiopathic hypercalciuric calcium stone formers explains reduced bone density
Am Soc Nephrol
J Am Soc Nephrol (abstract) (Nov) 6:933 1995

Bone biopsies were done in 24 patients with diet independent idiopathic hypercalciuria and low vertebral density and compared to controls. The patients showed evidence of lower bone formation and not excess bone resorption. They also had lower levels of PTH and higher levels of calcitriol.

Comment: A challenge to the usual notion that these patients have a primary problem with excess bone resorption. (Delmez)
