This study confirms others in the literature that in a prospectively
studied group of PD patients and HD patients that residual renal
function is better preserved in the PD group.22 PD patients began with
GFRs (combined Ccr and Curea) of 4.99ml/min which fell to 2.88 ml/min
at 18 months, compared to 3.96 and 1.72 ml/min in 36 HD patients. The
differences were significant at 6, 12 and 18 months.
