Changing incidence of idiopathic glomerular diseases in adults
Am Soc Nephrol
J Am Soc Nephrol (abstract)
(Nov) 6:413 1995
The authors reviewed the diagnosis on all their renal biopsies of
nonsecondary causes of glomerular diseases over the last 20 years. They
demonstrated that there was a significant increase in the incidence of
focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS) as the histopathologic diagnosis
over the last five years when compared with membranous glomerulonephritis.
No similar trend could be demonstrated for any other primary glomerular
diseases or diabetic nephropathy. FSGS is now the most common idiopathic
glomerular disease at their hospital.
