Expression in pathalogic parathyroid tissue of calcium receptor and vitamin D receptor gene message
Am Soc Nephrol
J Am Soc Nephrol (abstract) (Nov) 6:961 1995

The authors examined the expression of CaR and VDR mRNA in 5 primary hyperparathyroid, 4 uremic hyperparathyroid, and 3 normal parathyroid glands. There was a striking decrease in the mRNA levels in both primary and secondary hyperparathyroid glands. The decrease was more marked in area of nodular as opposed to diffuse hyperplasia.

Comment: Very interesting but need to see raw data and greater number of glands studied (jad).

Comment2:: In this study the authors find similar reductions of receptors in both primary and secondary (renal) hyperparathyroidism. This supports previous data and further suggests why such glands are difficult to suppress with out current approaches to treatment. (Sherrard)
