Thyroid hormone for treatment of acute tubular necrosis
in renal allografts: a prospective, randomized trial

(Nov) 6:1097 1995
The effect of the thyroid hormone (T3) to influence acute tubular necrosis
was
evaluated in 44 patients with a kidney transplant and delayed graft function
in
a randomized trial. Exogenous T3 caused a 2 1/2 fold increase in plasma T3
levels. However, dialysis requirements and time to recovery from ATN was not
different between control and experimental groups. Outcome at 1 year was also
not changed by thyroid therapy.
