Correlates of diabetic and non-diabetic renal disease in NIDDM
Am Soc Nephrol
J Am Soc Nephrol (abstract)
(Nov) 6:451 1995
153 renal biopsies performed for suspected non-diabetic renal disease (NDRD)
in patients with diabetes mellitus (DM) were evaluated. Indications for
biopsy were proteinuria w/o retinopathy (20%), short duration of DM (31%),
rapidly progressive renal failure (24%), active urine sediment (9%), and
other clinical evidence of NDRD (41%). Patients with NDRD alone had shorter
duration of DM; patients with combined diabetic nephropathy and NDRD had a
more rapidly progressive course and active sediment.
