Timing of complications in percutaneous renal biopsy: what is the optimal period of observation?
Am Soc Nephrol
J Am Soc Nephrol (abstract) (Nov) 6:427 1995

Percutaneous renal biopsies of native kidneys were performed in 394 adult patients from 2/83 to 4/95. Biopsy related complications occurred in 52 (13%) patients; half of these were major complications (need for transfusion or invasive procedure or sepsis). Older patients were more likely to have complications. All major complications were detected within 12h but only 80% within 8h of procedure. Observation of patients for 12-24 hours after renal biopsly is recommended. (Leehey)
