Nephrosclerosis in the white: no correlation between hypertension and renal histologic lesion
Am Soc Nephrol
J Am Soc Nephrol (abstract) (Nov) 6:396 1995

This retrospective study analyzes the relationship between hypertension and renal damage in 41 white patients with biopsy-proven nephrosclerosis. The majority of these cases had a normal body mass index, a strong family history of hypertension and coronary events, and mild or absent LVH and retinopathy. Renal damage was largely dissociated from arterial pressure. This study suggests that nephrosclerosis in whites has a strong genetic component and that vascular lesions in the kidney may precede hypertension. (Zoccali)
