Microalbuminuria and the renal vascular response to L- arginine in essential hypertension
Am Soc Nephrol
J Am Soc Nephrol (abstract) (Nov) 6:664 1995

It is well established the renal haemodynamic response (increase in RBF) to L-Arginine is blunted in essential hypertensives. This phenomenon most likely depends on a defect in the renal NO pathway. This paper shows that the renal response to L-Arginine is virtually abolished in essential hypertensives with microalbuminuria while it is less severely affected in normoalbuminuric hypertensives. Thus, microalbuminuria in hypertensives is associated with a severe disturbance in the intrarenal NO pathway. (Zoccali)
