Depletion of advanced glycated end-products (AGEs) in uremic serum and dialysis fluid by an AGE-binding lysozyme-matrix

Serum from diabetic patients with ESRD contains high levels of AGE which could contribute to vascular disease. An AGE-binding column was constructed with lysozyme-linked Sepharose beads. This matrix could capture in vivo formed crosslinking, AGE-containing species in diabetic sera. This may provide a novel approach for removing these substances from diabetic patients with ESRD.
