Progression of overt diabetic nephropathy: Role of metabolic
control
Am Soc Nephrol
J Am Soc Nephrol (abstract)
(Nov) 6:453 1995
191 patients with overt DN were followed for 7.6 years with GFR (CrEDTA). BP
and decline in GFR were linearly related, with no safe BP level. HbA1c and
decline in GFR were not linearly related; however, patients with HbA1c more
than 50% above the normal limit (8.2%) had a more rapid rate of decline of
GFR. Glucose as well as BP control appears to reduce progression of DN.
