Serum parathyroid hormone levels as a peredictor of the skeletal resopnse to intermittent calcitriol therapy
Am Soc Nephrol
J Am Soc Nephrol (abstract) (Nov) 6:940 1995

In a group of children on dialysis with hyperparathyroidism, these authors found that those treated with calcitriol responed quite differently and this difference related to the baseline PTH. After one year of treatment, adynamic bone was often found in patients with baseline PTHs below 1000. With PTH levels greater than 1000, hyperparathyroidism often persisted (as seen in bone histology) and the adynamic lesion was not observed. The authors conclude that the goal PTH level after treatment remains to be determined. (Sherrard)
