Arteriosclerosis, not atherosclerosis is common in end-stage renal disease: related factors
Am Soc Nephrol
J Am Soc Nephrol (abstract) (Nov) 6:648 1995

In 24 non-diabetic, non-cardiopathic, ESRD patients (42+/-12 yrs) there was a higher prevalence of carotid and femoral plaques (17/24) in comparison with a group of 24 age and sex matched healthy controls (5/24). Interestingly, the lesions were all calcified in ESRD patients while they were soft-atheromatous in three of the five healthy controls showing arterial plaques. Serum albumin and age but not arterial pressure nor cholesterol were related with plaques in ESRD patients. (Zoccali)
