Do racial differences exist for early target organ damage in essential hypertension
Am Soc Nephrol
J Am Soc Nephrol (abstract) (Nov) 6:649 1995

Target organ damage was compared in 204 hypertensive white patients and 79 hypertensive blacks. 42 mixed race matched pairs were formed based on sex, MAP, weight, and age. There were no differences in cardiac output, vascular resistance, LVMI, renal blood flow or renal vascular resistance between these matched white-black hypertensive pairs. The data suggest that there may be less race-related differences in target organ damage between whites and blacks than previously believed. (Daugirdas)
