Captopril and doxasozin induce similar change in renal hemodynamics in hypertensive patients with diabetes mellitus

J Am Soc Nephrol (abstract) (Nov) 6:650 1995

The role of alpha blockers on renal functions in IDDM is unknown. The effects of captopril (100 mg/d) and doxazosin (6.1 mg/d) on GFR and renal hemodynamics were compared in hypertensive patients with IDDM. Filtration fraction and renal vascular resistance were decreased by both drugs; GFR (iothalamate-I125) and ERPF (hippuran-I131) were not affected by either drug. The similar changes in renal hemodynamics suggests that these drugs may have similar renoprotective effects. (Leehey)
