Association between adequacy and nutrition in CAPD -- genuine or artifact?
Am Soc Nephrol
J Am Soc Nephrol (abstract) (Nov) 6:615 1995

This study deals with a controversy about the correlation of KT/V and nPCR in CAPD. The authors measure nPCR in the conventional manner but clearance is calculated by the iohexol method which is entirely independent of urea measurements and so avoids the problem of mathematical coupling. They find that the correlation between clearance and nPCR is not as strong when iohexol is used but still exists with an r value of 0.46, which is significant.

This study supports a growing impression that the correlation between small solute clearance and protein intake in CAPD is real and significant, although it may not be as strong as was originally thought. (Blake)
