Predictors of short-term mortality in diabetic hemodialysis patients
Am Soc Nephrol
J Am Soc Nephrol (abstract) (Nov) 6:567 1995

This study examined outcome in 942 prevalent diabetic hemodialysis patients. Neither delivered Kt/V nor choice of dialyzer membrane had an impact on the risk of death. The other risk factors were found to be predictive, such as low serum albumin, low hematocrit, white vs. black race, low serum cholesterol, and poor control of blood glucose. The results suggest that factors other than delivered therapy or dialysis membrane need to be examined in order to improve short-term outcome in diabetic patients on hemodialysis. (Daugirdas)
