Effect of blood pressure on survival in a prevalent cohort of hemodialysis patients
Am Soc Nephrol
J Am Soc Nephrol (abstract) (Nov) 6:645 1995

This study examined survival as a function of pre and postdialysis blood pressure in the large Dialysis Clinics, Inc. (DCI) database. Only patients older than 45 were included. Survival analysis found that postdialysis diastolic BP was indeed associated with an elevated mortality risk. However, systolic BP up to 180+ was not associated with increased risk. Low systolic (less than 110) and diastolic (less than 80) BPs were also associated with increased mortality risk. (Daugirdas)
